Book The Stranger I Married Review :

This is the longest 289 pages I have ever read. I don't mind sex in the stories I read, I just appreciate a bit of a plot to go along with it. The very narrow plot line of two damaged people coming together and creating or reacting to one misunderstanding after another as they fall in love is padded with opportunistic sex, angry sex, nearly public sex, semi-coerced sex, distract her/him with sex sex, because he/she is sad, mad, or depressed sex, rough sex and finally loving, romantic sex.Oh, there's a controlling, bitchy mother, a bon vivant brother and a few other secondary characters who are thrown into the mix, but their parts are so negligible it isn't worth describing them.Bottom line: I love a good love story and this one certainly had potential, but I just felt like this one was more of a sex manual than an actual novel.
“The Stranger I Married” by Sylvia Day…new author to this reader was a very interesting read. Gerard and Isabel were likeable main characters with the exception of their very rakish/adulterous lifestyles. At times I became so frustrated with the heroine inferring her maturity over the head of the hero that I just wanted to shake her and say that 4-years older is not quite that old. However, when a tragedy shakes the life of the hero, his maturity level went from boyish to a full grown man…something the heroine and others could not quite adapt to in the story. Both characters had a lot of insecurities that they needed to overcome. I think Gerard faired better than Isabel and I loved the patience he gave her to allow her to get past that obstacle that was allowing her to look beyond her continuous comparison of her late husband to Gerard. I could have just knocked her upside the head a few times and say get over it. With ex-lovers, society and a meddling mother/mother-in-law did not help their cause. In the end, they both had to come to terms with finding a way to get beyond past hurts in order for them to truly live as husband and wife.Another plus was Lord Trenton and Lady Abby Hammond. I thought their story intertwined in between the pages was just adorable. I loved how he went as far as to kidnap her in order for her to believe he wanted to marry her. Their secret trysts were delightful and sometimes comical…too cute. I know I always state that I like a bit of steamy in my historical romances, however the abundance of intimate scenes between the H/h was a bit overkill. I don’t it needed that much..just a moderate amount. All in all, this was an enjoyable read.
